Returned Mail

Hi everyone,

I received a package today that was returned to me. I have always mailed to Michael, and this is the first package that has bounced back to me, I think it may have been the final package that I sent on, so hopefully no more will bounce back.
This package contained two journals, Michael's and Jennifer's.

I am going to contact you both via flickr but basically I am wondering if Jenn wants her journal to come directly home, or if she wants it to go through Michael as it was supposed to.

This package was mailed 3 months ago, and it looks as if there has been a change of address I wasn't informed of, which is a little disappointing seeing as it cost me $15 to mail it.

If you're reading this, let me know what you would like done with your journal Michael.

I just realised that there were some comments on a previous post of mine that I didn't get a notification about.
As a result I didn't respond, so sorry about that.

Harry. I saw your comment about missing art from me in your journal. That's a bit odd, I thought I had done something in every one that came my way. Unless I jumbled it up with another and sent it on accidentally before i had worked on it.
Can you possibly take a photo of the of artworks in your book and post it here. Perhaps I painted and didn't sign the book? I'll be able to tell if I did something or not, and of course, if I didn't, I am happy for you to mail it on to me and I will add to your totem.

Was there a city in your book? If there was that was me. I remember getting one journal where there was a space between two artworks so I filled that space up. I'm hoping that was yours?

I have two journals here with me, completed and ready to go to Michael in CA. I have Jenn's and Michael's, so I am assuming that this must be the end of the line for me. My journal came home to me out of step with the mailing order so once I send these two on I think I am done. Unless of course there is another one out there hiding out that I haven't worked on yet.

I do have a photo of the two I am sending on, but I haven't downloaded it to my computer so I will try and upload that another day.

This moly will be on the move to Michael in the next day or so, I just need to get near a post office.

I have created another mini city, because I decided that I really enjoy doing them. It's unusual for me to find something like this that I enjoy creating over and over again.

This time around, the space above me is already taken, I filled in a space left between Sudjino and Vasilis Botoulas.

Hi all,
I just read Harry's post about groups falling apart and I just wanted to let you all know where I am at.

There was a period of time where I didn't get a journal for quite some time due to a backlog somewhere along the line.
Eventually the backlog made its way to me and I had 4 journals arrive at my place rather rapidly.

I worked on and sent two along to Michael very late last year just before I left to go overseas.

I still have two in my posession, I can't tell you off the top of my head which ones, though I think one of them is Harry's.

I will be aiming to get at least one of these moving in the next week. And the other one shortly after. I just have to fit it in with my university study.

But I just wanted to let everyone know that they are still here, and will definately be on the move.

How is everyone else doing?

Hi everyone.
Just a quick update to fill you in on where I am at.
As I posted last time, the backlog of journals finally hit me, and unfortunately I was in the middle of the fun chaos of my brothers wedding preparations. It was all hands on deck around here for quite a few weeks.

But I have finally made some progress.
I have finished my entry into Vasilis's journal and it will be on its way to Michael in the next day or so. Hopefully tomorrow.
I now have two more with me as another has arrived, and I think there is even another on the way to me now.
I am sorry it has taken me so long but I am getting back on track now, and I hope that over the next few evenings I will have more to share with you.

For now here is a shot of the page I just finished.....I have a video of the colouring process to come later, once I figure out how to use iMovie.

This is my addition to Sudjino's moly. Trying to keep to the original ethnic theme, I started this by looking at African and New Guinnea masks, but like all these things, it may have taken on a life of its own. Anyway, I hope you like it.

I have no problem if there is a backlog, I am not worried if I get more than one at once.

I just finished Lauren's moly with the theme of childhood toys or games. The previous two entries were for video games which I never really played. So I went for the anti-video game, anti-women's lib toy of the 70's, the Betty Crocker Easy Bake Oven complete with 60 watt light bulb required to bake lovely little cakes that were always raw in the middle. Really, I loved it when I had it, but now appreciate my father's hysterics at my baking on a light bulb.

Hi everyone.

I am almost done with my entry in my moly.
I have been videoing my progress so I can attempt to create a time lapse video of my work. But of course, now that I am nearly finished my battery died. I am waiting patiently for it to charge.

But I will certainly be ready for a mailout early this week.
I've gone a little bit retro - 1980's with my totem. After considering so many other traditional totem options, I ended up going with a Pac Man theme for my base. But of course, you are all free to add whatever you wish.

Sorry it's taken so long, but I finished the base of my Totem tonight. And the problems I had with my scanner are now fixed, which, I suppose, is self-evident.

I used straight watercolour but took Michael's advice to use little water in the mix. I don't think it's come out too bad. How about you?

I know we have set up a mail order but please do not mail them out yet. We are going to do it all at the same time. This works the best I have been in groups where we mail as we finish and they end up going to someone who is not even participating anymore. Some times people drop out even in the beginning so please hold off on mailing moly's.

I hope we all can still make the March 1st finishing deadline but it could always be pushed back.

Totem Pole Beginning

The base for my totem pole moly. I decided to include two images that inspire me in very different ways. I've had an ongoing interest in the artwork in 17th century colonial headstones of the New England area. They say so much about the people who lived and created the state where I now live (Massachusetts). The teapot is a little more mundane, but a part of my daily life. I always have time for a cup of tea that perks me up and soothes depending on my mood.

Done in watercolor pencil.

Hi Everyone....

My name is Lauren and I live on the east coast of Australia in the city of Newcastle. It's about 170kms north of Sydney.

This is my first ever Moleskine exchange. I have been waiting for one to come up that I thought suited my artistic abilities. While I love doing anything creative, I hesitate when things are supposed to be done in a totally realistic manner.

The totem poles gave me the chance to do an exchange that allowed for a bit more freedom.

I really can't wait to get started. I have my book and now I just need to start my design.

Hi everyone. I'm Jenn, I'm from Massachusetts on the east coast of the US. I'm looking forward to this Moly Exchange. It's the fourth one I've participated in. So far they've been really fun and rewarding to be a part of. I'm taking figure drawing class this winter with live models to push myself and be able to do better work in my exchanges. It's challenging, but fun so far. I have my notebook and have decided how I want to start my totem pole, so now to put pen to paper and see what happens. I'm excited to have such an international group and watch the totems grow taller as they travel.

Moly_x_63, founded by Michael Nightmare (USA), is an extension of the Moleskine Exchange. This blog will follow the adventure of a group of artists around the world, in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange. Our current group includes the artists listed to the right, including contributors in many different countries all over the world.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a couple of spreads (3-4 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artist around the world. Each artist has a month (give or take) to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The concept:

1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month (give or take) to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right -- for participants in this exchange, look at the list of names under MAILING ORDER. If you ever need to update addresses, please feel free to contact your partners directly! An important part of this project is to discuss and exchange information and ideas.

3. Each artist will do 3-4 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful, but also don't hesitate to meld your art with earlier entries.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she will simply keep her book when it comes back to her. She should email all of the participants to say she is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialogue. Any comments and questions are welcome.
